Welcome to the Borough of Emmaus

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a quaint historic community of 12,000 nestled on the northern slope of South Mountain. It lies 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 20  miles west of the Delaware River. Formed in 1759 as a closed Moravian village    on land owned by the church, Emmaus was incorporated as a Pennsylvania borough a hundred years later in 1859.

What’s New

The Borough offers a huge "Thanks" to all the Community members who volunteered across Emmaus and Upper Milford to clean up litter and other trash for the annual Earth Day Clean-Up which was held on April 21, 2012. There were over 300 volunteers registered for the event, which began at 8:00 a.m., at the Emmaus Community Park. After receiving assignments, volunteers went to approximately 17 of the Borough and Townships areas most in need of cleanup. The volunteers covered approximately 14.5 miles of roadway and 8.5 acres of parks. Assistance, equipment, and manpower were provided by the Joint EAC Committee as well as the Public Works Departments of both Emmaus and Upper Milford. The chairperson of the event was William Ahlert. All totaled, there were 250 bags of garbage, 35 bags of recyclables, and 2 pick-up trucks of tires and miscellaneous garbage collected and disposed of.

The Borough of Emmaus is currently accepting letters of interest to serve on the Civil Service Commission, Environmental Advisory Council, Library Board, Parks & Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and the Special Entertainment Commission.  Interested volunteers should complete the Board and Commision/Volunteer Information Sheet and forward it to: Borough Manager, 28 S. 4th Street, Emmaus, PA  18049.
